What are eco vouchers?

Updated on

Eco vouchers are vouchers for buying environmentally friendly products and services, up to €250 a year, free of tax and contributions. In Dutch: ecocheques.

Definition of eco vouchers

They are granted by a sector or company collective labour agreement (CLA), usually on an electronic card. They can be used for products and services on an official list.

The coalition agreement announces their abolition, but no law or date had been set by 6 March 2026: their status in 2027 is still to be confirmed.

Worked example

€250 in eco vouchers means €250 of purchasing power. Spread over the year as gross salary (€20.83 a month at €3,000 gross), the same €250 would leave you only about €59.64 net.

In Dutch: ecocheques

On a Dutch-language payslip or statement, eco vouchers are called ‘ecocheques’; on a French-language one, ‘éco-chèques’. On Indexo’s English pages: eco vouchers.
