Minimum wage in Belgium in 2026: how much net?

Updated on

Calculate your net pay on the minimum wage

Since 1 July 2026, the Belgian minimum wage (guaranteed average minimum monthly income, RMMMG/GGMMI) has been €2,233.61 gross a month for a full-time job, from age 18. It gives a single white-collar worker €2,102.61 net: the work bonus cancels out social security contributions and sharply reduces withholding tax (bedrijfsvoorheffing / précompte professionnel).

The 2027 amount has not been published yet. The minimum wage will rise by 2% after the pivot index is next exceeded, which the Federal Planning Bureau forecasts for November 2026 (forecast). Your sector may set more: you can check its pay scale on the joint committees page.

How much net, depending on your situation?

On the minimum wage, net pay depends little on your family situation: withholding tax is already almost zero. Dependent children and a partner with no income remove it completely.

With no children, a blue-collar worker keeps slightly more than a white-collar worker on the same gross pay: their work bonus is higher. But they receive their holiday pay from the holiday fund, not from the employer. ‘2 incomes’: both partners work; ‘1 income’: the partner has no income.

Why net pay is almost equal to gross

On the minimum wage, two reductions apply in full. The work bonus (werkbonus / bonus à l’emploi) reduces social security contributions by €291.93 a month: it cancels them out entirely. The fiscal work bonus then reduces withholding tax (bedrijfsvoorheffing / précompte professionnel) by €146.80. What remains is mainly the special social security contribution.

These reductions shrink as pay rises: between about 2,300 and €3,400 gross, a pay rise brings in little net. See pay rise or benefits and the net pay curve.

And part-time?

The minimum wage applies to a full-time job. Part-time, it is reduced in proportion to the hours. The work bonus is calculated on the full-time equivalent: at the minimum, the work bonus and the fiscal work bonus then offset all deductions, and net pay equals gross.

Young people and students

From age 18, the minimum is the same for everyone. Since 1 April 2022, collective labour agreement (CLA) No. 43/16 of the National Labour Council has abolished the age and seniority conditions: a worker aged 18, 19 or 20 is entitled to the same minimum income as a worker aged 40.

Students under 21 on a student contract can receive a percentage of the minimum (CLA No. 50), if their sector has no specific pay scale for students. The student contract carries only 2.71% solidarity contribution, with no withholding tax up to 650 hours a year.

Recent changes in the minimum wage

The minimum income moves in two ways. It is indexed by 2% when the pivot index is exceeded, as in January and in July 2026. And it was increased in three steps, on 1 April 2022, 2024 and 2026, under the social partners’ agreement of 25 June 2021. CLAs No. 43/16 and 43/17 set the base amounts: €1,806.16 as of 1 April 2022 and €2,029.88 as of 1 April 2024, before indexation.

The statutory minimum and your sector’s minimum

The RMMMG/GGMMI is a floor for all private-sector employees. Each joint committee also sets its own pay scales, almost always higher: from €2,242.81 a month in JC 200, from €2,504.53 a month in JC 302, for example. Your employer must pay the higher of the two.

Frequently asked questions

What is the net minimum wage in Belgium in 2026?

€2,102.61 net a month for a single full-time white-collar worker, on €2,233.61 gross. For a single blue-collar worker: €2,112.40. Net pay rises to €2,218.69 for a married white-collar worker with two children and a partner with no income.

Is the minimum wage the same for blue-collar and white-collar workers?

Yes: the guaranteed average minimum monthly income of €2,233.61 applies to both. Net pay differs slightly, because blue-collar workers’ contributions and work bonus are calculated differently.

Is a 18-year-old entitled to the full minimum wage?

Yes, since 1 April 2022 (CLA No. 43/16). Only students under 21 on a student contract can receive a percentage of the minimum, if their sector has no specific pay scale.

Are bonuses included in the minimum wage?

The RMMMG/GGMMI is an average monthly income: CLA No. 43 specifies which elements of pay count when checking it. For a specific case, contact your trade union or FPS Employment.

What will the minimum wage be in 2027?

It is not known yet. It will rise by 2% the month after the pivot index is next exceeded, which the Federal Planning Bureau forecasts for November 2026. This page will be updated as soon as the amount is published.
