How much net? Read a job offer
Updated on
Paste the text of a job offer: Indexo finds the gross salary, working time, status and benefits, then calculates what you will have left in net pay, a month and over the year. An offer at €2,800 – €3,200 gross a month gives a single white-collar worker between €2,224.17 and €2,309.09 net a month.
Each item read is shown with the extract from the offer it comes from. What the offer does not say remains ‘not stated’: nothing is guessed, and you can correct everything in the form. The text stays in your browser.
What Indexo looks for in the offer
- The salary: a monthly, annual or hourly amount, a range (‘between 2,800 and €3,200’), ‘from’ or ‘up to’, and whether it is gross or net. In French, Dutch or English.
- Working time: hours per week, full-time, four-fifths or half-time.
- Status: white-collar or blue-collar worker, when the offer says so.
- Benefits: 13th month, meal vouchers and their value, eco vouchers, company car, group or hospitalisation insurance, telework, travel expenses, bicycle, bonus.
The net pay comes from the same calculation as the Indexo calculator: social security contributions, work bonus, withholding tax (bedrijfsvoorheffing / précompte professionnel) and special social security contribution, with the parameters in force on 1 October 2026. Over the year, Indexo adds holiday pay, the year-end bonus if the offer mentions it, and meal vouchers.
When the offer does not say everything
An annual salary may cover 12 months, or 13.92 months when it includes the 13th month and double holiday pay. If the offer does not say which, Indexo calculates both readings and lets you choose. For an hourly wage with no number of hours, the calculation is for full-time work of 38 hours, and Indexo says so.
Benefits with no amount, such as a company car or group insurance, are listed but not given a value: ask the employer what they are worth. To compare two offers in detail, with the commute and your real hourly wage, use the job offer comparison tool.
Paste the job offer
Copy the ad from the job site and paste it below. Indexo reads the text in your browser and calculates the net pay.
The tool could not be displayed. Reload the page (Cmd + Shift + R on a Mac, Ctrl + F5 on a PC).
The ‘Net pay of an offer’ bookmarklet
No more copying and pasting: drag this button to your browser’s bookmarks bar. On a job offer page, click the bookmarklet: Indexo opens in a new tab with the text of the offer, or with the passage you have selected.
- Show the bookmarks bar (Ctrl + Shift + B, or Cmd + Shift + B on a Mac).
- Drag the ‘Net pay of an offer’ button to this bar.
- On a job offer, select the paragraph about pay if you wish, then click the bookmarklet.
The text goes into the address after the ‘#’ sign: this part of the address is never sent to a server, neither to Indexo nor to the job site. The bookmarklet only reads the page displayed, at the moment you click.
Why a bookmarklet, and not a badge on job sites?
Showing net pay directly on job sites would require a browser extension that reads every page you visit, or a script that many sites block through their security policy. The bookmarklet does nothing until you click it, and it works on every site.
On a phone, bookmarklets like this are awkward to use: copy the offer and paste it into the tool above.
Frequently asked questions
Does Indexo keep the text of the offers I paste?
No. The text is read in your browser and sent nowhere. The bookmarklet puts the text in the part of the address after ‘#’, which never leaves your device, and Indexo removes it from the address as soon as it has read it.
The offer gives an annual salary: is it over 12 or 13.92 months?
Both exist. Over 12 months, the annual salary is 12 times the monthly gross. Over 13.92 months, it also includes the 13th month and double holiday pay, which is worth 92% of a month. Ask the employer; in the meantime, Indexo calculates both.
What if the offer gives no salary?
Indexo still lists the benefits it finds. To find out whether an offer is fair, compare it with the pay scale of your joint committee and with the salary distribution in Belgium.
Does the calculation take the company car into account?
No: a company car adds a taxable benefit in kind, which depends on the model and its emissions. Indexo flags it, without putting a figure on it.
