Is my 2026 payslip correct?
Updated on
Since 1 November 2026, withholding tax on pay has been calculated differently (Royal Decree of 27 September 2026). The calculations on this page still follow the previous rules: for pay received from 1 November, withholding tax and net pay may differ. Update in progress.
A payslip can be checked in four lines: social security contributions (13.07% of gross pay, calculated on 108% of gross pay for a blue-collar worker), the work bonus (werkbonus / bonus à l’emploi), withholding tax (bedrijfsvoorheffing / précompte professionnel) and the special social security contribution. Example published by the CSC/ACV union for December 2026: on €3,017.85 gross, the payslip of a married white-collar worker in a dual-income couple deducts €394.43 in social security contributions, gives back €105.65 in work bonus, then deducts €444.04 in withholding tax and €23.54 in special contribution. That leaves €2,261.49 before meal vouchers and commuting. Indexo redoes these calculations to the cent.
Your payslip never leaves your device: whether you upload the PDF, a photo or a scan, or copy the amounts, everything is read and calculated in your browser.
Check my payslip
Upload your payslip: PDF, photo or scan. Indexo recognises the format, works out your profile (status, family situation, children), explains every line and redoes the calculations. No payslip to hand? Try a sample payslip.
The calculator needs JavaScript. The explanations and examples on this page remain readable without it.
Gross-to-net salary 2026 in Belgium: what you really keep
Salary, civil service pay, student job, flexi-job, business and employment cooperative or self-employed work: a few questions, one at a time. Start from your gross pay or the net you are aiming for. You can skip questions; the result will say clearly what we assumed.
- 1Your job or your status
- 2A few questions, one at a time
- 3Your net pay, line by line and sourced
Belgian parameters in force on . Each line of the result links to its source. No data is stored or sent: everything is calculated in your browser.
Which status pays you the most?
Changing jobs, thinking of joining Smart, starting out on your own, or torn between two offers? Compare the net pay of each option over the year, including what does not show on the payslip: unemployment, holiday pay, deductible expenses.
No file? Copy the amounts
Copy the main lines of your payslip and your situation: every line is recalculated for the same gross pay and the same situation, and any difference gets its most likely explanation.
The tool could not be displayed. Reload the page (Cmd + Shift + R on a Mac, Ctrl + F5 on a PC).
Your payslip never leaves your device
A payslip contains your name, address, account number and salary. Indexo never receives them: there is no calculation server, no online artificial intelligence and no cookie.
- You drop in the PDF: your browser opens it with pdf.js, a free Mozilla library served by indexo.be, then recognises each line label. The account number and national register number are masked automatically.
- You upload a photo or a scan: Indexo detects it on its own, and the text is read by Tesseract.js, also loaded from indexo.be and run on your device. Nothing is stored, not even in the browser’s memory.
- You copy in the amounts: the calculation is done in the page, with the same engine as Indexo’s calculator.
Close the page: the payslip disappears. For peace of mind, you can also cover your name before taking the photo.
What the tool checks, line by line
For each line filled in, Indexo applies the 2026 rules and compares to the cent. A line left blank is not compared.
| Line | Rule | CSC/ACV payslip |
|---|---|---|
| Social security contributions | 13.07% of gross pay; 13.07% of 108% of gross pay for a blue-collar worker; 7.5% and 3.55% for statutory staff | €394.43 |
| Work bonus | Up to €299.53 a month full-time, nothing above €3,403.62 gross (white-collar workers, amounts as at 1 September 2026) | €105.65 |
| Taxable | Gross pay minus contributions, net of the work bonus | €2,729.07 |
| Withholding tax | 2026 scale in Annex III to the Royal Decree implementing the Income Tax Code 1992, minus the reductions for dependants | €479.05 |
| Fiscal work bonus | 33.14% of part A and 63% of part B of the work bonus | €35.01 |
| Special contribution | Depending on salary and household (single, single-income or dual-income couple) | €23.54 |
| Net paid | Taxable pay minus withholding tax and special contribution, plus or minus the other lines | €2,292.29 |
Indexo also checks the payslip’s own sums: gross pay minus contributions must give taxable pay, and taxable pay minus deductions must give net pay. A sum that does not add up often points to a line left out when entering the figures.
The most common differences and their explanation
The withholding tax is too high
Most often, your employer does not know about your dependent children or your situation as a couple. A month’s withholding tax is reduced by €52 for one dependent child, €138 for two, €367 for three and €635 for four (2026 scale). Indexo looks for the situation that explains the withholding tax on your payslip and suggests it to you. Tell your HR department your exact situation: otherwise, the difference over a year shows up in your tax settlement.
The contributions are not 13.07%
A blue-collar worker pays contributions on 108% of gross pay, because their holiday pay is paid separately, by the holiday fund. A statutory staff member pays no social security contributions: 7.5% is deducted for the survivor’s pension and 3.55% for health care, 11% rounded. A student worker pays 2.71%. Indexo recognises these rates and tells you which status your payslip applies.
The work bonus is different
For part-time work, it is calculated on the salary converted to full-time, then pro rata. A bonus or overtime paid this month also reduces it. Its amounts changed on 1 September 2026: on an older payslip, a small difference is normal.
The net pay does not add up
If the deductions match, the difference comes from the other lines: the employee share of meal vouchers (€1.09 per day worked), the commuting allowance, the telework allowance, an advance, a union subscription or a wage garnishment. Copy them into ‘other amounts’: the net comparison takes them into account.
A month unlike the others
A month with double holiday pay, the year-end bonus, overtime or an absence gives a different payslip. Withholding tax on a bonus follows a non-recurring scale: calculate the net amount of a bonus. To understand the difference between two months, use ‘Why has my net pay changed?’.
What about the municipal tax?
It never appears on the payslip: withholding tax is the same in every municipality. The municipal tax is added to your final tax, calculated the following year.
Recognised PDF payslips
Indexo’s reader knows more than fifty line labels, in French and Dutch, and the formats of the main social secretariats (payroll providers): SD Worx, Securex, Partena Professional, Acerta, Liantis, Group S, Attentia, UCM, Sodalis and Easypay Group. It also reads payslips from the federal civil service, salary slips from Wallonia-Brussels Federation education (one slip per assignment, added together) and those from Flemish education (AgODi).
A PDF protected by a password (often your date of birth) opens too: the password stays on your device. A scanned PDF with no text is recognised as an image and read the same way as a photo.
Checking a payslip from a photo
On a phone, the upload area also offers the camera. Lay the payslip flat, well lit, without glare, and frame it in full. The first reading downloads the recognition module (about 5 MB), then everything happens on your phone.
A photo is less reliable than a PDF: a 8 can be read as a 3. So Indexo shows you every amount it read, and every line can be corrected.
And in January 2027?
The 2027 withholding tax scales and work bonus amounts have not been published yet. Until then, Indexo compares a January 2027 payslip with the 2026 rules and warns you. As soon as they are published, the tool switches to the new scales. The key dates are on the ‘What’s changing’ page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my payslip is correct?
Check four lines: social security contributions (13.07% of gross pay, or of 108% of gross pay for a blue-collar worker), the work bonus if your salary is modest, withholding tax according to the 2026 scale and your family situation, and the special contribution. Then check that the sums really give the net pay. The tool on this page does these calculations for you.
My withholding tax is higher than a colleague’s on the same salary. Why?
Withholding tax depends on the situation you have declared to your employer: children and other dependants, a spouse with no income, disability. Each dependent child reduces it every month (€52 for one child, €138 for two in 2026). If your situation has changed, tell your HR department.
Is my payslip sent anywhere?
No. The PDF, the photo and the amounts you copy in stay in your browser. Indexo has no calculation server and uses neither cookies nor local storage. Close the page and everything disappears.
What should I do if the tool finds a difference?
Read the suggested explanation: often, correcting the situation you entered is enough (status, children, working time). If the difference persists every month, ask your HR department or your employer’s social secretariat for an explanation: the ‘Open in my email app’ button prepares the message, which you reread and send yourself.
Does the tool check civil servants’ and teachers’ payslips?
Yes: statutory staff (survivor’s pension and health care), contract staff and temporary teachers (13.07%, with work bonus), tenured teachers. Salary slips from the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and from Flemish education are recognised in PDF. Household or residence allowances are read but not recalculated.
