Gross to net in 2026: how much of your salary do you keep?
Updated on
Since 1 November 2026, withholding tax on pay has been calculated differently (Royal Decree of 27 September 2026). The calculations on this page still follow the previous rules: for pay received from 1 November, withholding tax and net pay may differ. Update in progress.
In 2026, a single full-time white-collar worker receives €1,962.14 net for €2,000 gross, €2,261.33 for €3,000, €2,614.26 for €4,000 and €3,467.07 for €6,000. The higher the gross pay, the larger the share deducted: you keep 98.1% of €2,000 gross, but 57.8% of €6,000.
The tables below give monthly net pay by amount, for a white-collar and a blue-collar worker, by family situation. Each amount has its own detailed page: full year, pay rise, payslip and cost to the employer. Parameters in force on 1 October 2026.

How to read these amounts
How it is calculated
From gross pay, social security contributions are deducted (13.07%, on 108% of gross pay for a blue-collar worker), reduced by the work bonus (werkbonus / bonus à l’emploi) for salaries up to €3,403.62. Then withholding tax, an advance on income tax, and the special social security contribution. Each step is explained in From gross to net: the calculation explained.
What makes net pay vary
- Status: white-collar or blue-collar worker, but also civil servant, self-employed person or student, who follow other rules (see net salary by job).
- Family situation: spouse with no income, dependent children, single parent.
- Working time: part-time, the work bonus is calculated on the full-time equivalent.
- Benefits: meal vouchers, company car, overtime, which the calculator adds.
Pitfalls to avoid
- The trap zone: between €2,300.62 and €3,403.62 gross, the work bonus falls; out of €100 extra gross pay, only €16.19 to €23.89 is left.
- Monthly net is not annual net: double holiday pay and the year-end bonus are added, with their own withholding tax.
- Withholding tax is only an advance: the final tax, calculated the following year, may lead to a refund or tax to pay.

Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate your net salary from your gross salary?
Deduct 13.07% social security contributions from gross pay (minus the work bonus if your salary is low), then withholding tax and the special social security contribution. For €3,000 gross, a single white-collar worker receives €2,261.33 net. The full calculation is explained in From gross to net.
Why does a blue-collar worker earn less than a white-collar worker on the same gross pay?
Their contributions are calculated on 108% of gross pay, because their holiday pay is paid separately by a holiday fund. At €3,000 gross, they receive €2,248.73 net a month instead of €2,261.33. Over the year, holiday pay included, they receive €30,655 against €30,083 for a white-collar worker with a one-month bonus.
Why does a pay rise bring in so little between 2,300 and €3,400 gross?
Because the work bonus, a contribution reduction for low earners, falls as pay rises and stops at €3,403.62. At €2,500 gross, out of €100 extra gross pay only €16.19 net is left; at €3,000, €23.89. See the net pay curve.
Is net pay the same for a couple?
For a dual-income couple, almost: only the special contribution changes. With a spouse who has no income, the marital quotient reduces withholding tax: at €3,000 gross, net pay rises from €2,261.33 to €2,612.75.
Do these amounts apply to 2027?
Not yet. The withholding tax scale, the work bonus and the 2027 ceilings have not been published yet: they usually are at the end of December. These pages will be updated as soon as they are published; the January indexation will also change gross pay. See what changes on 1 January.
