What is the workload fraction?
Updated on
The workload fraction is the share of a full timetable for which a teacher is paid, for example 12 periods out of 22 in lower secondary. In 2026: 20 to 26 periods (full timetable of a teacher in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, depending on the level).
Definition of the workload fraction
In education in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, a full timetable is 26 periods in nursery school, 24 in primary, 22 in lower secondary and 20 in upper secondary (more for some posts). Your salary is calculated in proportion to your periods.
The same person can hold several posts, each with its own payslip: they are added together.
The key figure in 2026
Source: Decree of 14 March 2019 on the organisation of teachers’ work, Article 3: full timetables of 26, 24, 22, 20 and 28 periods, Wallonia-Brussels Federation (Gallilex). Value in force on 1 October 2026.
Worked example
12 periods out of 22 in lower secondary: 54.55% of a full timetable. If the full-time salary is €3,500 gross, the post is paid €1,909.09 gross a month.
