Updated on

Calculate your net pay on time credit

On end-of-career time credit, the National Employment Office (NEO) pays €299.47 gross a month to a cohabitant on a one-fifth reduction, €361.39 to a single person and €644.72 at half-time (amounts as of 1 March 2026, indexed by 2% in September). In 2026, you need to be 60 and have 31 years of career as a man, 26 as a woman.

A cohabiting white-collar worker on €3,500 gross who moves to four-fifths at the end of their career receives €2,262.77 net a month, instead of €2,400.40. Time credit with a reason (caring for a child or a relative, training) also gives entitlement to an allowance, for 36 to 51 months.

Since 2026, a full-time job spread over fewer than 5 days can also move to four-fifths if an agreement provides for it.

Pension, holiday, illness

  • Pension: time credit with a reason is assimilated (treated as worked) on the basis of a normal notional salary; end-of-career time credit, on a limited notional salary. The pension reform under discussion in 2026 could limit these periods: check on MyPension.
  • Holiday: days of time credit do not count towards next year’s holiday. Holiday pay will be lower.
  • Illness: on part-time time credit, your benefits are reduced pro rata; during a full break, you are not entitled to them.

Parental leave, the most requested type of thematic leave, has its own page. To compare with a simple switch to four-fifths without an allowance: what if I switch to four-fifths?

Frequently asked questions

How much do you get on end-of-career time credit on a one-fifth reduction?

€299.47 gross a month for a cohabitant, €361.39 for a single person, as of 1 March 2026, then about 2% more since September. Your four-fifths salary comes on top: on €3,500 gross, a cohabitant receives €2,262.77 net a month in total.

At what age can you take end-of-career time credit?

At 60 as a general rule, with 31 years of career for men and 26 for women in 2026 (one more year each year until 2030). Some schemes allow you to start at 55 until 30 June 2029: long career, arduous job, company in difficulty.

Does time credit reduce my pension?

Paid periods are assimilated (treated as worked): time credit with a reason on a normal notional salary, end-of-career time credit on a limited notional salary, so slightly lower. The 2026 pension reform could change these rules.

What is the difference with parental leave?

Parental leave is a type of thematic leave: it only requires 12 months’ seniority and can be taken until the child turns 12. Time credit with the reason ‘caring for a child’ comes on top, until the child turns 8, with 36 months’ seniority.
